The History Behind The Hogwallow Boys

The band had its beginnings in a church with Lonnie and Scott and a few other fellers.  After a short time Gary came along and we started playing at church some.  We had a drummer for a while, but after a time it seemed easier to not have drums.  If someone requests, we can most likely find a drummer at for an event.  Because of his walk with the Lord and his rich baratone voice, we asked Don Sawyer to join.  Robby Paul entered the picture during one of our Christmas party performances at a rehabilition center.  When told that he worked at the center and also played the banjo, we invited him to sit in with us.  Robby adds a great deal with his ability on banjo and dobro.  He also plays the Scottish Bagpipes in a competition group.  Don't be surprized if you see Scott and Lonnie in a set of kilts playing and hamboning to Bonaparte's Retreat.

As to the name, one of our friend's Mother was born in Hogwallow, Texas, near what is now known as Lucas, Texas.  When her birth home's name appeared in her obituary, we adopted the name The Hogwallow Boys.  It's as simple as that.

The photo below was taken by Leon Zellars in front of the White Rock Baptist Church, Anna, Texas.  Notice the gravel road.  The road was asphalted during the summer of 2005.  Thank you Commissioner Jaynes.
